“A well-known Chinese saying goes: “There are ten thousand gates!” This seemingly enigmatic expression essentially means: “There is something for everyone in the realm of the art of life.”
It is clear that our multifaceted Nio project has become our own gate to wisdom and compassion. Philosopher Michel Dijkstra, artist and initiator of the Nio project Jikke van Loon, and the audience will discuss these 10,000 gates and one gate, the different perspectives, and the wisdom and insights they bring us.
Michel Dijkstra is an independent scholar in the field of Eastern philosophy and Western mysticism. He studied philosophy, journalism, and Sanskrit at the University of Groningen. He received his doctorate from Radboud University with a comparative philosophical dissertation on Meister Eckhart and Zen master Dogen. He wrote a Handbook “Japanese Philosophy.”
